Bow, NH -- A federal judge in New Hampshire ruled this week against parents wearing "XX" wristbands as a protest against transgendered athletes competing in women's sporting events. Judge Steven McAuliffe of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire held that a school district ban against the protest would allowed to stand to protect the feelings of transgendered athletes.
Judge McAuliffe stated in his ruling [Ed. note: I am not making this up] “Because gender identities are characteristics of personal identity that are ‘unalterable or otherwise deeply rooted,’ the demeaning of which ‘strikes a person at the core of his being, ... school authorities reasonably interpreted the symbols used by plaintiffs, in context, as conveying a demeaning and harassing message, they properly interceded to protect students from injuries likely to be suffered.’
Several female athletes expressed support for the ruling. College athlete Stephany Frezbrenner issued a statement from her hospital bed that she was "...proud to stand (or, in this case, lie down in a dark, quiet room as I recover from facial surgery) in support of these trailblazing athletes."
Ms. Frezbrenner was struck in the face when she blocked a transgendered volleyball player's spike two weeks ago, resulting in a broken nose and possible brain damage. She continued "while I don't remember much of what happened to me until I woke up in this hospital bed, I'm proud to have done my part in this stunning and brave new future. I don't want transgendered athletes to feel unwelcome. That would be horrifying."
